HRAFF PRESENTS: The Look of Silence
HRAFF presents an exclusive, preview fundraiser screening of Josh Oppenheimer’s award-winning documentary The Look of Silence at Cinema Nova on Wednesday 25 November at 7pm.
The film will be introduced by Tito Ambyo, an Associate Lecturer in Journalism at RMIT University, who has previously worked as a journalist in Indonesia and is a former Executive Producer of Radio Australia’s Indonesian Service.
All proceeds go towards the 2016 Human Rights Arts & Film Festival.
ABOUT THE FILM
The Look of Silence, a companion piece to Josh Oppenheimer’s 2012 Academy Award nominated film The Act of Killing, is a compelling cinematic masterpiece about the 1965 Indonesian genocide, depicted through the eyes of the surviving victims as they confront the perpetrators. The documentary focuses on the youngest son of a family of survivors, an optometrist named Adi, who discovers the identities of his brother’s killers and decides to confront these men while testing their eyesight – asking them to accept responsibility for their actions. This unprecedented film initiates and bears witness to the collapse of fifty years of silence and oppression that has ruled the lives of these surviving families.
